Altima Kool Lite® Whitening: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a patient of an Altima Dental to qualify for Kool Lite Whitening?

No. At Altima, we are more than happy to invite you into any one of our participating GTA Altima Dental locations to take advantage of our Kool Lite Whitening. All patients will be provided with a complimentary screening exam in order to ensure suitable candidacy for the procedure.

What is Altima Kool Lite Whitening?

Altima Kool Lite Whitening is a professional, in-office whitening procedure where a dental professional applies a hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to the targeted teeth and then applies a special blue light to the gel to accelerate the whitening process. Special care is taken to protect the gums and surrounding tissues while the whitening procedure is in progress.

How long does the Kool Lite Whitening procedure take?

The whitening procedure itself takes about an hour or less for teeth to become from 6 to 10 shades whiter. However, we recommend that you prepare to be in the office for approximately 2 hours. This will provide ample time to complete the entire process from start to finish.

Does Kool Lite Whitening hurt?

The Kool Lite Whitening procedure itself is painless. However, you may experience some minor temporary tooth sensitivity. But not to worry, our trained professionals will do everything possible to ensure a pleasant whitening experience. If minor sensitivity is experienced, it may last for 24 to 48 hours after the whitening process has been completed. Sensitivity can be effectively minimized with the use of a sensitivity toothpaste (e.g. Sensodyne) coupled with the use of an over-the-counter medication (e.g. ibuprophen).

Is Kool Lite Whitening harmful to my teeth in any way?

No. Research has found no evidence of direct damage to the teeth after the whitening procedure, particularly when administered by a dental professional.

How long will it last?

Typical results of Altima Kool Lite Whitening will last approximately one year, with varying results dependent upon the personal habits of the individual. For example, excessive use of coffee, tea or tobacco can shorten the longevity of the whitening result.

How much whiter will my teeth be?

Altima Kool Lite Whitening can whiten teeth up to 10 shades in one hour or less. However, individual results may vary because each individual has several influencing factors to consider. For example, personal habits, the beginning tooth shade and the natural depth of enamel can influence how white teeth may become.

Altima Dental has selected a 15% Hydrogen Peroxide based whitening gel. It was selected for its strong yet safe and proven whitening properties. Our professional whitening product is up to 3 times stronger than those available in retail stores.
